Intro & New Features
Those who have been fans of Source for Sports exclusive gear are in for a treat with Bauer’s new Supreme Matrix skates for 2022. Featuring a Reflex tendon, Aerofoam technology, a Carbon CURV composite quarter package, and the same boldness of the highest-end Mach skates, you can now empower your stride to the highest level at a more budget-friendly price.
Boot Construction & Stiffness Profile
The boot is what makes the Matrix skate a solid option for those who want some benefits of the Mach and M5 Pro at a more affordable price point. As part of Bauer’s Supreme line, these skates have a high stiffness profile to withstand and cater to more powerful strides. The boot uses the same carbon CURV composite quarter package as the Mach and M5 Pro, with the same grade as the second price point. The Digi Comp outsole is the same as that in the M5 Pro and helps reinforce and keep the boot stiffer for longer.
Liner & Internal Padding
The skates are outfitted with a Lock-Fit liner for extra grip, durability, and moisture management, so you can be comfortable and perform at your best. The skates use Aerofoam Technology in the ankle padding, which is designed a bit thicker than conventional foam but is more form-fitting and thermoformable.
Asymmetrical Toe Cap
For a better overall fit and to negate any unused space within the boot, Bauer turned to using an asymmetrical toe cap, a concept that has been observed in previous high-end Bauer skates. This isn’t necessarily new technology, but Bauer went ahead with the Supreme Matrix skates and enhanced the toe further for an even better fit.
Tendon Guard
Bauer’s original Flex tendon guard has been refined in the new Reflex tendon for 2022. This tendon does not use inserts, and its aggressive shape and flex notches add spring to your stride while keeping it tough enough to recoil back quickly, ready to strike again. This feature was originally only available in the Senior Ultrasonic and 3S Pro variations, but now in 2022, the Reflex guard is also a feature of the Matrix skate.
Tongue
The tongue is made of an updated 48oz pro stock felt material with an injected metatarsal guard. This combination of comfort and protection is designed to form fit around and over the metatarsus area for extra coverage, and the thick felt coupled with the tough exterior help shield the front ankle area of your foot from harm while you play.
Insoles
The Supreme Matrix skates use a Lock-Fit footbed, completing the lining. Lock-Fit is designed to, as the name suggests, lock your foot in place and make it easier for you to push off and keep control of your skating.
Lacing System
The Matrix uses a standard flex facing lace system along the eyelets with improved durability and reliability in the materials used. The back of the skate is reinforced with a tough reflex tendon guard to keep that delicate area covered, in addition to implementing some extra push and power to your stride.
Steel Runner, Holder & Blade Profile
To hold the blade in place, the Supreme Matrix skate uses Tuuk Lightspeed Edge, which is the same as it was in the previous Supreme Ultrasonic skates. The runners provided on the skates are Bauer’s LS Pulse runners, high-end steel designed for optimal glide and durability when on the ice for longer or more often in the week.
Graphics
Now onto the most exciting part: the new Matrix graphics. The Supreme Matrix boot looks very similar to the highest-end Mach in terms of the slick, black colouration and silver accents and logos. The accents depict cybernetic patterns along the sides in addition to Bauer’s new graphic logo on the heel.
